About

Well, cookies sometimes crumble in mysterious ways… I started to play musical instruments at the age of 16, bought my first guitar, tried to compose my first few clumsy own songs, and was proud of it. At that time, the tender idea of being able to make this a living one day had already emerged, and it was clear to me that I would sooner or later achieve it. Little did I know that I would have to wait for 33 years. Patience - a character trait which is often underrated and yet so important…

A long time has passed since my humble beginnings, during which time I tried, did, and abandoned, plenty of things and had my ups and downs. I performed my first few gigs in 1983 together with bands which believed that the world was waiting for them (which it was not). Later, I switched to being a solo performer, just me and my acoustic guitar, played the “classics” and sang. It was inevitable that my musical skills would improve; I learned to play the piano, bass and drums on my own, and my compositions became more and more ambitious. I then quit my regular job and tried to survive as a pub and bar musician (while this was, of course, quite unsuccessful, it was a hilarious time nevertheless). I later played in cover bands and a country band; again, this did not pay my bills, and I quit making music almost completely in the mid 90ies. I needed a “respectable” occupation, which I got, and then lead something like a “bourgeois” life. At least, some money and a sense of “security” was what this brought me.

The “revival” occurred in 2009, when I discovered that modern technology enabled me to record my own songs, with one instrument after the other. So I wrote and recorded new songs. While this was clearly fun, the sound and production were far from being professional, so I decided in 2015 to have an entire album recorded and arranged by an expert, whom I found in David. The result of all my labour and all my ideas is what you hear on my first album, “Decisions”. My “child”, my character, my philosophy…
